I received copies of the Journal yesterday; this issue looks really good; thanks to you all for another fine job getting the journal into shape for printing and especially for getting it out during the month that is listed on the cover. That hasn’t happened for a while.

Most CSE members have now received their copies of the September/October issue in the mail. You may have noticed a change in the paper used both for the cover and the text pages. I’m happy to report that this paper is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified and contains 10% recycled postconsumer waste. I’d also like to thank Allen Press, our printer, for their committment to environmental sustainability.

Please let everyone at Allen Press who worked on the journal, from composition through printing to shipping, know how grateful we are for your great work.

One of the very best things about our relationship with Allen Press is the personal responsiveness of the press whenever questions or problems arise. I really value the fact that when I call or send a message I promptly get a reply from a human (not some automated response), that the response "makes sense" and is helpful, resolving my problem, and that I do not have to wait days to find out.

Great looking issue.  I really like the look of the table of contents...very eye-appealing.  Also, the recognition of our award recipients is nicely done.

The catalogs  are magnificent! The artist has said that they are the most beautiful he has had, and the designer is very pleased, as well.

The magazine arrived last week. It looks great. Great job. I am really happy with the quality. Believe it or not, several advertisers asked if we had done something different in our print, as it appeared the pictures looked a lot crisper. Going to a new printer was an internal decision and no advertiser had any knowledge; so, I knew we had made the right decision by moving our magazine to Allen Press. Tell all your people involved, great job and (Journal) will definitely be coming back.  It is great when your customers tell you there is a noticeable increase in the quality. Thank You.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and everyone at Allen Press. Three journals and one book in a short period of time…great job everyone! May 2013 be even better for all.

The webinar on decreasing time to publish was really good. It was a timely topic for us because one of our journals is seriously considering moving to a per-article workflow due to a very high volume of accepted manuscripts. This would be the first of our journals to do this, so I didn’t really know much about the process. Thanks to the Allen Press webinar, I now know that a “modified” per-article workflow would be best in this particular case. We’ll probably have our comp bundle manuscripts on a monthly basis as opposed to a true article-by-article workflow (more work and more expensive). We’ll then post them online ahead of print.

Overall, I can’t say anything negative about it. The webinar moved briskly, and provided a good introduction to the topic without getting too overwhelming or boring. I look forward to attending more Allen Press webinars.

It was great meeting you at our Networking Event the other night. Just wanted to personally Thank You again for what you do for our publications. Allen Press does amazing work and we couldn't do it without you guys. Hope to see you at future Networking Events. I am looking forward coming up to Lawrence soon and taking a tour of your facility. If there is anything I can do for you, please feel free to call me. Take care.
