Pinnacle™ Online Publishing

Online Services

Online publishing is multifaceted. Content available online must be easy to find, whether it be in the form of journals, books, or other reference works. This has become crucial to the success and sustainability of publications across every discipline. Whether you publish one article at a time or several issues each year, Allen Press has the tools and the know-how to help streamline your publication’s process. The Pinnacle™ online publishing platform, powered by Atypon™, is a robust online publishing platform paired with exceptional customer support that’s designed to ensure you’ll feel comfortable and confident from beginning to end.

Creating the website you need
Project planning and execution are included in our integrated solution. We will work with you to answer any questions regarding content sources, content delivery, and content volume. The Pinnacle online publishing system can be used independently or in combination with other Allen Press services to create a seamless flow from manuscript submission, through copyediting and typesetting, to print and online publication.

Design is key to launching a successful, robust, and user-friendly website. We fully understand and recognize the need to preserve the integrity of your brand and style throughout the user experience. Multiple predefined areas on the website are available for periodic customization as you post news, notes, advertisements, and other information pertinent to your organization, publications, and annual meetings. Updates encourage members and users to see your website as a timely resource for information about publications and other society and organization topics.

Making your information go farther
Pinnacle hosts full-text XML files in addition to PDFs, image files, and supplemental data. Providing full-text XML for articles ensures that searches will return meaningful results, which saves users valuable time. In addition to article hosting, we work with abstracting and indexing providers and search engine vendors to ensure the widest distribution of your content. Data can be submitted to Google™ and other search engines; leading abstracting and indexing providers such as Medline, PubMed, and ISI; and also CrossRef. The goal is to drive usage growth, and thus revenue, as you connect effectively with current and potential customers and subscribers.

Additional content beyond what appears in the print publication can be economically posted online as a benefit to subscribers. Foreign subscribers gain easier and timelier access to articles, thereby extending the impact of your content and potentially increasing citations and author submissions.

FirstCite™ advance online publication options available in Pinnacle allow you to post content in advance of print or final online publication. Highly respected authors will know papers submitted to your publication are never affected by a backlog.

Quality assurance
Allen Press provides content loading and quality assurance services as part of the Pinnacle package. Our quality assurance includes validation and evaluation of XML source files, comparison of source PDF files to online XML versions, verification of all links and functionality, verification that all content is present, and confirmation that content is sent correctly to all aggregations previously defined by the customer. Our content loading and quality assurance services also include releasing the content to the public per schedule, obtaining content from publishers as needed, and touchpoint consultation.

Effective advertising management is vital for organizations that sell online advertisements in any form or use them to promote their own goods and services. Our advertising management options include uploading and scheduling of online advertisements so the beginning and ending dates for advertisement duration are achieved with ease.

Whether your access model involves providing open access for a limited time after launch, pay-per-view articles, group access to specialized articles, or all of the above, Pinnacle allows you to identify and authenticate users through standard protocols such as username and password (for individuals) and IP range (for institutions). Additional forms of authentication include trusted proxy servers and referring URLs, both of which act as strong security for users accessing your content through a society portal.

Pinnacle provides valuable tools for marketing as well, including special collections, e-mail alerts, RSS feeds, recommended articles, and e-commerce. All Pinnacle options provide subscribers and customers with additional information and content in easily accessible and useful ways.

The Pinnacle platform incorporates logging and reporting capabilities that allow you to monitor every aspect of your website, including COUNTER-compliant content usage reports, advertising, and e-commerce. You may choose to run reports on demand via the website or schedule them for delivery by e-mail in HTML, XML, and tab-separated formats.

Pinnacle for Mobile is a supplemental feature that enables you to present your content attractively across all major mobile platforms while controlling access from the institution out to the end users and their devices. The use of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript make it possible for content to display on most mobile devices, including those operating on iOS, Android, and RIM. Because Pinnacle for Mobile is built on the full Pinnacle site, user preferences such as favorite articles are always available, regardless of device. Device pairing allows institutional users to gain access through their mobile device while maintaining accurate usage statistics for institutions.
