Integrally involved in the production process, the managing editor will manage and monitor the publication’s content as it moves from its point of entry, through first proofs and revisions, to its ultimate delivery to print and/or online publishing.

Manuscript coordination and issue planning
Immediately upon arrival at Allen Press, your manuscripts will be sent into production—but the work doesn’t stop there. After the issue has entered the production stream, the managing editor will oversee the efficient layout of articles, ads, and other content, assemble the issue, and prepare the table of contents.

Production coordination
As the issue progresses downstream, attention turns from initiating production to fine-tuning and preparing content for its final destination to print or online. The managing editor will e-mail PDF proofs to authors and editors, receive and review corrected proofs, and incorporate all revisions into the final set of proofs. As needed, requests and instructions from the editor will be relayed to key Allen Press staff along the way.

Communication
In any team effort, effective communication is a must. Timely correspondence with authors and the editor to request late or missing material will keep your publication on schedule. Responses to e-mail and written inquiries regarding status of articles, figures, or corrections in process will keep you in the loop and assist you in planning your deadlines. And if you need documentation for your records, or simply to stay informed, the managing editor can also produce production-related status reports for the editorial office and maintain records of all correspondence.
